USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas gave a moving keynote speech at the AILA (American Immigration Lawyers Association) annual conference and was met with thunderous applause after his response to being asked to comment on the Supreme Court decision on DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act, which forbid federal recognition of gay marriage) yesterday:
“Since February 2011, when both the President and the Attorney General announced their view of the unconstitutionality of DOMA, we have kept the record of each I-130 that we have denied, based on same-sex marriage, so we are prepared to act on that.”
Please watch the video to listen to the audience reaction to the news – USCIS will adjudicate visa petitions that were previously denied solely because of DOMA.
